Falcon Guest House

Location and atmosphere

Falcon Guest House was built in 1913, and has many preserved fixtures including an open fireplace in the lounge, brass light switches and Victorian beds. It is situated in a quiet location, seven minutes from the harbour and town. Behind the house are a few vegetable gardens.

Facillities

You stay in atmospheric rooms with a view over the garden and surroundings. The breakfast room is large and sunny. The breakfasts are wholesome and partly organic. Vegan, vegetarian and full English breakfasts are available. In the communal sitting room you can read or play the piano (piano lessons are possible)

Surroundings and activities

The pleasant town of Whitby is a good operating place for walks and cycling tours along the coast (Ravenscar Nature Trail, Robin Hood’s Bay). Inland you will find the Yorkhire Moors, a high plateau bounded on the north by the Plain of Cleveland and on the south by the vales of Pickering and York. The park is at its scenic best in August and September, when the heather is in bloom. The Cleveland Way National Trail hugs the rim of the moor and provides excellent views. Along the trail is the Roseberry Topping, that looks like a miniature version of the Matterhorn. Those who are interested in culture have to visit Rievaulx Abbey. This enormous Cistercian house, numbering some 150 monks and 500 lay brethren at one time, was the nucleus from which several other northern abbeys were colonised.
