This nature campsite De Hondenhoek is lying on the banks of the Leekstermeer on only ten kilometer from the city Groningen. The accomodation is on the southern edge of the Westerkwartier, a region in the province of Groningen with mounds, winding ditches and bendy roads.

The four sheltered fields of the campsite are surrounded by wooded banks. There are pitches for about four tents, caravans and campers. The grounds have electricity, hot showers, and a solar boiler for dishwater. At the campsite bikes and canoes can be hired. You can make use of the fridge. There are tables for picnic. In summertime the groundsman regularly makes a campfire, above which the children may bake bread. The young ones can play in a sandbox and at the playground.

The scenery is varied: at one moment you are in an intimate, enclosed landscape with rows of trees, at another moment you have a wide view over large, open meadows. The silent country roads are a pleasure by bike or to skeeler. The lake Leekstermeer offers lots of opportunities to watersport. At the Lettelerdiep you may step into a canoe directly. At the lake you can go rowing, windsurfing, fishing and sailing.
