A little south of the city Leeuwarden, on the river Zwette, this characteristic ‘head-neck-body’ farmhouse WeidumerHout is situated. This area is characterized by the green of the wide meadows and the quiet of the countryside. At the campsite you have a beautiful view over the fields. You can even arrive in your own boat, as WeidumerHout has its own boarding point. Management at this accommodation is sustainable where possible, which means that all the waste water is purified on location and given back to nature. Solar collectors heat a part of the water used for bath and shower.

Weidumerhout offers hotel and camping accommodation. At this hotel, that has obtained three, you will stay in one of the ten rooms; every room with own shower, toilet and sometimes a bath. Hotel guests may enter the orchard and the lounge with library. The campsite offers pitches to 30 tents or caravans. For hikers there is a separate spot. You can freeze your freezer packs at the campsite. At the restaurant in the farm you can taste all kinds of regional Frisian products, like cheese and beer. Guests may also use the sauna and the solarium. WeidumerHout offers information about the surroundings: it has the folder service of the Tourist Information Office. There are canoes and kayaks for rent. Various routes are available, including one of approximately an hour. Children may use the go-karts and carrier cycles on the grounds.

In the immediate surroundings it is possible to ride by bike the '11-city skating race', the famous Dutch “Elfstedentocht”. Other possibilities are golfing, fishing, windsurfing and horse-riding. In the village of Jellum-Bears you can visit the gate of the Stinspoort from the 17th century of the old Unia-State, combined with the steel extension (construction) that was built in 1998. In the village Wiuwert there are four well-preserved mummies to be visited in the crypt of the church. For city fun you can go to Leeuwarden (6 km), the capital of the province.
