Location and atmosphere

This charming outdoor museum area in a lakeside setting in Suodenniemi invites visitors to pause and relax. Candle light, sunshine or warm fire on rainy days, a relaxing atmosphere is guaranteed. Two of the historic dwellings in the area are available for meetings. All the log buildings are between 100 and 300 years old. There is a windmill, a thatched roof building, and a 100 years old smoke sauna, big enough for 15 people at a time. This quiant site is surrounded by quiet woods, forest lakes rich in fish, hiking and nature trails and a canoeing route.

Facillities

The old-style lakeside cabin and sauna of Rauhanniemi (Cape of serenity) are for rent around the year to hikers, cross-country skiers, and those seeking a relaxing and refreshing nature holiday. Accommodation is for 8 + 4 persons. Additional accommodation can be arranged in one of the museum buildings (sleeps 7) or the outbuildings (beds for 10). Camping for pre-booked visitors in connection with other rentals only. Full board and meal service for larger pre-booked groups are available. Self-catering is possible in the lakeside cabin as well as in the outside kitchen which is in the same yard. For the enjoyment of groups different well-being events can be arranged. Nature walks, canoeing, fishing trips, herbal lectures, traditional skills such as making birch switches, hiking, yoga and massage treatments can be arranged. Smoke sauna in the evenings and occasionally an old-fashioned barn dance can be a perfect end to a perfect day. Inquire for offers for meetings, events and accommodation.

Surroundings and activities

Associated with Koskela Museum is Frantsila Organic Herb Farm and its Well Being Centre, 30 km away, which also holds courses and is available for meetings and stress reduction programs (Aija Lento, 040-591 8742, aijalento@elisanet.fi).
