Yewfield
Yewfield has views over the Vale of Esthwaite, Lake Windermere and the fells beyond. With this Victorian house, built in 1859 in gothic style, comes 12 ha of grounds where Christina and Gary Primrose grow organic vegetables and herbs and experiment with naturalistic styles and plantings such as a coppice garden, wildflower meadows, a fern corner and a wildlife pond.
The self-catering accommodation is open the whole year but the Bed and Breakfast accommodation is only available from mid-February till mid-October. As a Bed and Breakfast guest you stay in a double room with own bathroom. Guests can make use of the living room and the library. The wholefood continental buffet breakfast includes fresh fruits, muesli, cereals, home-baked bread, yoghurt and marmalade. You can also opt for a cooked vegetarian walkers' breakfast. The whole accommodation is non-smoking. The guests of the apartments can bring their dog after agreement with the owners.
The house is surrounded by native woodland, rough fell pasture and a stream. The grazed pasture is managed carefully, giving priority to ecological considerations, which qualifies it to be part of the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme. Yewfield is set in exquisite surroundings, offering miles and miles of walking trails. The woodland is home to squirrels, roe deer, peregrine falcons, sparrow hawks, wood warblers and redstarts. Cycling, horse riding, sailing and fishing are possible in the neighbourhood. Beside this Cumbria has a large number of historical sights to offer.
