Natuurvriendenhuis Krikkenhaar
In the rolling coulisse (hedgerow) landscape, famous in the region of Twente, between wooded banks and ashes, is lying the Krikkenhaar, a hostel for nature lovers. The house is located on a sheltered sand ridge* covered by a wood of 4 ha.
There is a sunny sun house and an intimate small room where in total 53 guests can stay comfortably. The large room is fit for groups. There are facilities for users of wheelchairs. Next to the house you find a field for four tents for hikers and two holiday cottages. There is a fireplace and a barbecue. For children there is a playground with a sandbox, a field to play volleyball and a pit for campfires. At the house there is documentation available about nature and culture of the region of Twente.
The area of (church) villages, watermills and farmsteads is cut by/ crossed with clear brooks. Around Krikkenhaar there are estates like Twickel in the place Delden, with a castle and lovely gardens, and Weldam near Diepenheim. The landscape has an age-old agricultural tradition which you see back/ shows (off) in the building(s). Twente lends itself excellently for lovely cycle tours in the outskirts, like the Route of Erven & Sagen does. Bikes are for rent at the accommodation. There are possiblities for walkers, too, like the Twente path and the Overijssel path. The rolling hills of the Dutch Schwarzwald (near Rijssen) and on the Heuvelrug of Salland are covered by forests. Near Delden you find characteristic salt houses.
