Natuurvriendenhuis het Zeehuis
500 Meter from the beach of the North Sea you find ‘Het Zeehuis’, a monumental house for nature lovers. The back yard is formed by the ‘Noord-Hollands duinreservaat’, the protected dune area of North Holland, a reserve. In older days the house was a holiday-camp of the ‘Burgerweeshuis’, an orphanage.
The house has 31 rooms for 86 guests in total. There are two kitchens and two recreation rooms. There is a chair-lift for disabled people. Behind the house some tents can be pitched. Children can play in and around the house as much as they like. At the house you can rent bicycles and nearby you can rent reclining bicycles.
The beach and the sea are nearby for kite-flying, swimming and windsurfing. In the house you can buy admission tickets for the ‘Noordhollands Duinreservaat’. In this beautiful area you find dunes and more than 300 km cycling and skeelering routes and around 500 km footpaths. Near the village Schoorl the seastrip has been cut. In that way the ‘Kerf’ was created, a natural dynamic dune-valley, where young dunes arise and wash away. Behind the pine-forests you find the bulbfields and the unique scenery of the old polders ‘De Schermer’ and ‘De Beemster’. At the auction (on water!) of Broek op Langedijk you can see how special flat boat-shipments of vegetables were sold by Dutch auction in the old days. In Alkmaar you find museums and other opportunities to let the whole family enjoy itself.
