Podere Il Casale lies conveniently between the medieval towns of Pienza and Montepulciano. It is a medium seized organic farm with vegetables, herbs, olives and wheat. There are 150 sheep, 25 goats, 2 donkeys, pigs, cats and dogs. Five adults and five children live here. They produce beautiful olive oil, sheep- and goats cheese, pasta’s, pesto’s and honey. Il Casale belongs to the Association “Amici del Podere Il Casale”. The aim of this Association is to insure that the project goes on, contributing with ideas, initiatives and financial aids.

In the 300 year old main building you find the guestrooms, bathrooms, the dining room and the big kitchen. You can stay on a basis of Bed & Breakfast or camp. There are six pitches for tents or caravans on a grassy field, with shadow from the trees or under a roof. Twice a day a nice meal is cooked, which you can enjoy, together with the pleasure of a good conversation with the other guests. (Children between two and ten pay 5 euro for camping.)

In the surroundings you can visit several thermal baths (Bagno Vignoni, San Filippo en Chianciano) or a nearby lake, that belongs to the nature park and bird sanctuary of Montepulciano. Pienza’s inner city is on the world heritage list of UNESCO. Big cities like Siena and Perugia are 60 km away. Perugia is an old city belonging to the Etruscan State Union. Most features however are Roman. It has an impressive number of churches, cathedrals and basilicas.
