Puukarin Pysäkki
Puukarin Pysäkki is located in North-eastern Karelia, 8 km from the village of Valtimo. The farm is home to 6 calving cows and their offspring, Finnish sheep, a donkey and a goat as well as cats and dogs. The farm produces organic cereals, vegetables, root crops and fruit. Home-baked rye bread, traditional Karelian pastries and cereal products are for sale on the farm. The owners of the guesthouse are active in many ways in promoting the traditional Karelian culture, as well as the traditional landscapes and biodiversity.
For tourists, the farm offers bed and breakfast and full board accommodation. The Guesthouse comprises 4 comfortable rooms sleeping 2 to 4 as well as an outbuilding sleeping 2 to 6. There is also a little cabin suitable for people using the wheelchair. Also self-catering possibilities are available, as well as a newly renovated house suitable for groups (5 rooms for 15 persons). The eatery Pysäkin Pirtti seats 40-60 people. The meals are based on Karelian tradition, using organic ingredients and home-grown products as much as possible.
On the farm, you can learn about organic farming and traditional skills and crafts. There is also riding, a Karelian version of skittles and winter sports (skis for hire). A smoke sauna is available. The traditional holidays of wintertime are celebrated in the old style. There are guided tours of Murtovaara House Museum. Nearby there are a lake, a nature trail, a viewing point, heritage landscapes and cycling routes. The national parks of Hiidenportti and Tiilikkajärvi are at 25 km. The farm is also on various hiking and canoeing routes.
