Rectoría de La Miana consists of an old Romanesque presbytery and a Benedictine monastery. The site is graced by the ruins of a 9th century castle, La Miana, and a 12th century Romanesque chapel. In the 1970s, Frans Engelhard discovered this idyllic place and began its restoration. After decades of decay, he breathed life into the property, which now exudes a mysterious, mediaeval atmosphere. There are various living rooms filled with antique furniture, galleries, a fireplace, and a large room to practice crafts and relaxation techniques. Various courses are on offer. The Rectoría has eight double bedrooms. The price for lodging includes a delicious breakfast and a good dinner. The house uses power generated by solar panels and water from its own source. It is set in a very peaceful area; the smell of the woods wafts up from the quiet, eternally green valley, which is home to wild boar. There is an excellent rock pool nearby where you can swim.

The surrounding mountains and the volcanic landscape of Olot are great for riding or walking (guided tours available). The mediaeval towns of Besalú and Santa Pau are worth a visit. The ancient city of Girona, Figueres (home of the Dali Museum), and the coast with its fishing villages and beaches are only an hour’s drive away.
